Short examples, with reviews

These are a couple of example of short films that I have researched, they display no dialogue and both have build ups to an unpredictable twist. From looking at IMDB a critic has reviewed 'The Black Hole' as: a short and deep tale of greed of human nature. It is impressive how the writers and directors Philip Sansom and Olly Williams were able to make a short of less than 3 minutes running time without any line and succeed in transmitting one of the seven deadly sins ( "Avaritia") so perfectly and with right dose of humor. My vote is nine. It is quite credited by the critic who thinks that the film makers managed to pull off a strong emotion in a very small amount of time and with no speech. 'Strangers' is short film created by Fox Searchlight pictures; it displays a message of it doesn't matter who you are you shouldn't be judge on face value or religion. The film entails two males sat opposite each other on a train, one of them shows there religion by sitting fondling a pendant of a religious kind. They both stare, and eye each other up during the journey until a gang of hooligans catch the train and begin to intimidate the one male with the pendent. It then becomes clear that the other male is of the same religion when his mobile phone ring tone gives him away. The two strangers then work together to escape the hooligans and succeed in doing so. I thoroughly enjoyed this short, and found the message enlightening as well as making it humorous; Fox made a great short and were able to show a numerous amount of emotions again without any dialogue. IMDB: Very, very simple but well made and interesting. This is a film about antisemitism, there are a couple of guys on a subway and they appear semitic in colouring and hair. A group of three tough skinheads get on the train and begin trying to intimidate the guys; it is obvious someone is about to get hurt. however, when an odd diversion occurs, the two take the opportunity to get away, leaving the evil punks behind. Considering how much antisemitism has been on the rise in Europe the last decade or so, this is a very timely film. However, I am not sure what impact it will have other than providing a little laugh, as the problem is deeper than this simple little film. On the other hand, since sometimes when there isn't much to do, laughing at an ugly situation is good enough, ;like this film. cute, well made and worth a look. Titles and credits are incorporated into these short films like any other, from my research into this I have found that a common occurance for short films is that; most of them start with an ident (company name/logo) 'strangers' and 'the black hole' both begin this way. Names of writters and directors usually appear at the beginning accompanying the ident, and actor/actresses names are commonly at the end of the film. This shows the importance of the creators over the actors; the actors are not usually hollywood stars this is mainly the reason they dont not appear before the creators. All of the names come at the end of 'The Black Hole' but the first to appear are again the writters and directors of the film. There are some shorts I have researched that just begin the film simply starts then the title and all names are shown when the film has finished, I saw this on a short called 'How to say I love you.' Another short I looked at 'Unnoticed Love' It begins with an ident and then everyones name is shown before the film starts.
