What is a Short film

A short film is a film with a duration of up to 59 minutes, but usually between 5 to 11 minutes from the research I have done in to short film. My film will only last around 5 minutes, the short film format usually has little dialogue and an interesting or humorous twist sometimes even a hidden message; My own short will also have a unexpected twist which will develop conventions of a supernatural thriller, which is the genre of my film. I also found out this information by carrying out my research into 'shorts'. Many short formats are posted on you tube by independent film makers with large viewing numbers; and numerous people leave comments criticising them. Even well known companies such as Pixar support short films and make there own; its not just independent movie makers that use the short format. As most shorts and my own doesn't have any dialogue the emotions are displayed through movement and pace of the camera and editing; as well as camera angles and how the camera displays a characters personality without them having to say a word. I will post some xample of popular shorts and use IMDB to show the praise and critisim they were giving; IMDB also recognises the short genre, it is a very rated format.
